good things DO happen to good people (good people being yours truly): I GOT A PROMOTION! i am now the deputy managing editor of my journal. why is this good? because it is a huge bump up in title which makes my resume all the more pretty. and because i get a double raise in january (combined merit and promotion)! now that the evil boss is leaving (ps: i have to go to lunch with him today, indian buffet style), a different managing editor is coming on board. she seems totally nice, albeit sort of quiet. but i know for a fact that she will actually do work and care about the work getting done, so that's a total relief. although it is going to be completely stressful and difficult for a while, because the two of us will be doing the work of three peeps. that is, until they hire someone else, but that's not even going to help for a while because training and getting a newbie up to speed is almost a full time job. why i'm psyched: mo money mo money mo money; i can possibly pay off my credit card debt which looms (if my raise is big enough); the resume looks mucho better which will help me get a good job in the industry (hopefully nyc); bad boss leaving, nice boss coming in; finally being recognized for all the shitwork i've done; making everyone i know call me deputy from now on. the only two famous deputies i could come up with on such short notice were deputy dawg and don knotts on "the andy griffith show", so at least i am in good company. if you think of others, let me know...
