lifelong goal #789 realized this weekend...i learned to knit. i have a portion of a scarf made and i am so proud. i can't believe i did it with my own two (tiny) hands!
i saw "house of sand and fog" this weekend. sweet christ, this movie is sad. i cried hot salty tears for the last half hour of the movie. despite my earlier bitching, i think this academy award season is not that bad. all the performances i've seen thus far have been nothing short of amazing. i also saw "whale rider". the lead actress (aged 12) is nominated for best actress. she is adorable and incredible and there is one scene that is utterly gutwrenching and should basically have had the words "for your consideration" scrolling at the bottom the entire time. she'll never win, but fuck she's good. you can on demand (greatest invention ever after netflix and tivo) it if you have cable and some time to spare. it's gentle and lovely and worthwhile.
the information killed the other night. seriously, a star-making performance. if you missed them, they play mideastdown again this saturday. if you missed it, what's your excuse. fred armisen from SNL and i are BFF now. rachel dratch was also in da house, but i didn't talk to her. i did spend a few moments backstage, which is always cool and i haven't been back there since i dated a drummer who played the mideastdown many moons ago.
my friend pat rules. when i arrived home after boobfest04 (aka the supahbowl), i looked thru my mail to find that he had sent me (as promised) a video mix tape. it comes with a table of contents, but in his note he told me not to look at it so i would be surprised. i am so incredibly psyched to go home after work and watch this. he is a genius at making any sort of mix, and i'm sure this videomix will be no exception. i bet you wish you had one!
