first things first, am i the only person obsessed with the fact that fergie (the ho-ish singer from black eyed peas) was "stacey" on "kids incorporated" in a former life? i know i'm not the only one who spent many a preteen afternoon faithfully watching the exploits of the kids! martika, where has thou gone? last night i was privileged to watch the movie helen hunt SHOULD'VE been nominated for oscar for: "girls just wanna have fun". fuckin a, i love this movie. it has it all. a cast beyond reproach: sarah jessica parker before she embraced her naturally curly hair or found any semblance of fashion sense; shannon doherty pre-90210 and major facial reconstructive work and/or braces; jonathan silverman before his voice changed and the ill-fated nbc sitcom "the single guy"; and of course, helen hunt when she was still human and not the anti-crying cyborg she became when she won the oscar (ding! they're on sunday!) for "as bad as it gets" (i hate that movie so much!). here's what i'm wondering: what ever happened to lee montgomery? lee montgomery played jeff malene, the hairy hunk of the movie and dance partner to one miss parker. jeff was the badboy on the motorcycle, whose chess king leather bomber jacket only further proved to me that he was a rough and tumble force to be reckoned with. jeff malene took no crap from nobody, but we did get to see his sensitive side (all badboys have one) when he dropped out of the dance contest to save his dad from being fired by his evil blue-haired boss (father of dance tv dance off competitor natalie and the "richest man in town"). thank god he saw the proverbial light and reentered the competition by the end of the movie! my sister and i were convinced that jeff malene was the best dancer (in hindsight he definitely has a "dance double") we'd ever seen (keep in mind this is pre-swayze in "dirty dancing") and he could rock the fluorescent half shirt with his hairy belly exposed like nobody's business. a quick search for lee holy grail on imdb.com shows me that lee montgomery indeed peaked with "girls" and his last foray onto the big screen was in 1987. his bio indicates that he dropped out of the "limelight" to pursue his burgeoning music composing career which culminated in composing the soundtrack for the film "Trigon: The Legend of Pelgidium". we've all seen that right? shout out to eighties movies featuring scenes with makeovers, choreographed dance sequences, and bad bad fashions (see: "can't buy me love" for another example). i still know the words to most of the "girls" songs and can vividly remember wanting to be helen hunt's cool outcast character in real life. if you're reading this lee, thanks for the memories...
